DEFI WING 2025 WRAP UP

From May 26–28, nearly 600 riders gathered in Gruissan, South of France, for the 4th edition of DEFI WING. With three full days of Tramontane wind lined up and a buzzing event village to match, this year’s DEFI smashed records. Top riders from around the world came to line up for mass-start races, chase top speeds, and soak up the one-of-a-kind DEFI experience. ENSIS was right there in the mix with a booth, a team of stoked riders, and the latest gear on display.
The Racing
The DEFI has long held legendary status in the windsurfing world, and over the past few years, wing foiling has carved out its own space. It’s hard to believe this was already the 4th DEFI WING. Held in the strong offshore Tramontane winds, the racecourse stretches across glassy water, perfect conditions for riders to push themselves and equipment to the max.

Traditionally, DEFI WIND races are 40km slogs. In recent DEFI WING editions, most races were trimmed down to 20km, with a 40km race to finish things off. Not this year. DEFI WING 2025 didn’t hold back: 40km races were the goto from day one, with a couple of 50km races thrown in for good measure. Seven races over three days meant over 250km of racing in total. That’s a serious amount of time on foil.

Unofficial DEFI Parawings and… Disqualifications?

With parawings starting to show up more and more, it was only a matter of time before they made their way into the DEFI lineup. Of course, Balz was right there with his trusty ROGER, proudly taking third place in the unofficial DEFI-PARAWING (don’t ask how many competitors there were). Sadly, the parawings were disallowed the next day, maybe one day they’ll get their own DEFI race, but not this year. Still, it made for some good banter and debates on the beach.

One of the exciting moment came at the closing ceremony, when the organizers signed off with: “See you next year with 1000 riders.” If they pull that off, it would be wild, almost double the size of this year. Either way, DEFI is an experience you don’t want to miss, and next year’s event is shaping up to be another big one.

The ENSIS booth was buzzing all weekend. Riders and visitors got hands-on with all the latest ENSIS gear; The ROGER, the all-new TOPSPIN ACE, JIVE, and the MANIAC foil range.
One fun highlight at the booth was the giveaway: participants had to guess how many meters of seams are used in the construction of the TOPSPIN ACE 4m. The correct answer? 123 meters. Those who guessed it right were entered into a draw to win a 2xROGER parawing – not a bad reward.
On top of that, the ENSIS team was out on the water every day, chatting, racing, pushing each other, and having a great time. A huge thanks to our riders Thomas, Balz, Joshua, Audrey, Flora and Florian for the energy, performance, and good vibes. You made the ENSIS presence on and off the water something to remember.
