Travelling with Wing Foiling Gear

Travelling with Wing Foiling Gear

The days are finally getting longer, the water is getting warmer, and it is starting to feel like packing up your gear and hitting the road in search of the perfect wing foiling spot. One of the best things about wing foiling is its versatility of where to wing foil: from lakes to seas, so finding the perfect wing foiling adventure destination shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.

Thanks to the nature of most of our products, ENSIS equipment is perfect for those wanderlust-filled wing foilers. Whether you’re jumping on a plane and jetting off into the sunset, or bundling your boards into the back of your cosy camper, our product range is designed to keep your gear safe while it crosses continents by your side.

Prepped and packaged

To travel safely with your gear, it is important to ensure it is prepped and packed well. Making sure your gear is dry and washed clean of sand and salt before being packed, is imperative to its longevity; ultimately preventing any mould growth or corrosion.

Regularly checking for any damage is also key to keeping your gear safe. Not only could damaged gear result in accidents and potential injuries but could cause further damage to other parts of your equipment when packaged up and travelling together.

Having inflatable gear is one of the features that makes wing foiling perfect for travel. However, making sure your wing is fully deflated is vital to ensure it is safe while in transport. Rolling your inflatable kit not only makes it as small as possible but also guarantees that there is no air left inside. When your gear is inflated or has trapped air, there is tension on the material, making it more susceptible to tears and punctures.

Adding padding and protection is a key part of transporting your gear safely. This is particularly important when travelling with airlines, as they are regularly caught being heavy-handed with luggage, often resulting in damaged or snapped boards. Our boards all come with a dedicated board bag, specifically designed for each model. Many practical details such as compression straps, padded shoulder straps, screw pockets and foil centre zipper help you protect and carry your ENSIS board. However, we would always recommend adding padding, such as foam, bubble wrap or towels, or protective covers on your more fragile gear, such as the foil. This provides an extra layer of protection against potential impacts during transit. Additionally, ensure that the weight is evenly distributed inside your travel bag to avoid putting excessive pressure on any one side. Doing so not only preserves the structural integrity of the bag but also facilitates easier transportation.

Choosing the right gear

Choosing the correct gear to travel with will inevitably make your wing foiling adventures smoother and more enjoyable. Carrying huge amounts of heavy gear alongside your normal luggage is never fun, not to mention the valuable space it can take up inside your van or car. This is why ENSIS has worked hard to create a product range that is adaptable, allowing our wing foiling gear to fit into your lifestyle seamlessly. A perfect example of this is our ROCK’N’ROLL AIR inflatable wing foil board. This board has been designed to suit everyone, from discoverers to pros, who want the benefits of an inflatable board without compromising on quality or performance. The ROCK’N’ROLL AIR showcases a concave shape that enhances control during launch and flight. Its substantial carbon-fibre track plate delivers direct control and an exceptional board-to-foil connection. Sold alongside the ENSIS TRACKSTER Foil, which is designed for easy take-offs and smooth riding; perfectly complementing the board.

If you’re the type of person who likes to dabble at a few different water sports, then of course we have designed the perfect board for you. The Inflatable 1Board3Sports is built with adaptability in mind. With stand-up paddle boarding at the heart of this design, this board can also be used to wind SUP and wing SUP when combined with the necessary gear. Of course, its inflatable design once again makes this board much lighter than traditional SUPs, while also allowing for a much smaller packed-away size, minimising space taken up in storage or while travelling.

Packing with location in mind

If you are lucky enough to own plenty of wingfoiling gear then packing with location in mind will help ensure that you have the perfect riding conditions when you get to your destination. For example, if you’re visiting the blustery shores of South Africa then it is worth remembering that wind speed may well be higher, so you won’t need to pack your biggest wing. Likewise, if you’re going to be diving into some freshwater European lakes, the lack of salt will make your buoyancy lower, so packing a more buoyant board or a larger wing may make your riding a little easier.

However, if you only have one board, one wing, and one foil, please do not be disheartened. The best riders on the water are the ones enjoying themselves the most. Although your wing foiling kit may not have the perfect specifications for the conditions you’re faced with, as long as it is safe to ride, then you’ll still have the best time.

At ENSIS, we are fortunate to have some incredible team riders based around the globe. With the rising popularity of wing foiling, they travel far and wide to compete and wing foil in some of the most stunning locations. For example, Joe Mew from the United Kingdom journeyed to the Maldives. Despite space constraints on a sea plane, he opted for an inflatable wingfoil board and enjoyed the warm waters of the Maldives. Read more about his adventure here.
