ENSIS team rider Sofia Marchetti made her way to Brazil. With four wingfoiling disciplines and nine international stops, the GWA wrapped up its 2024 season in Jericoacoara, Brazil, concluding the year with freestyle and "FreeFly" wingfoil racing. The event roster was packed, and the riders were ready to finish strong.

Racing and Freestyle in Brazil

Hosting freestyle in Jericoacoara brought a fresh challenge. The waves, kickers, and wind direction favored riders who were right-foot forward (goofy), whereas most events throughout the year catered to left-foot forward riders. This was a big deal since kickers provide a major height advantage for tricks. Left-foot forward riders had to adapt or innovate - and they delivered.

Taking advantage of the lighter winds, The Brazil event kicked off with wingfoil racing. Riders used larger wings and worked hard to avoid touching down. The racing went off without a hitch. Freestyle kicked off on Friday and wrapped up Saturday, with moderate winds and decent sized swell made it exciting to watch on the live stream.

ENSIS team rider Sofia Marchetti made her way to Brazil, determined to put on a great performance. As a left-foot forward rider, this event posed a real challenge, but she gave it her all, demonstrating impressive skill and technical ability. Sofia placed second in her first heat, won her second heat, and was only narrowly knocked out in the quarterfinals. She attended every GWA freestyle event this year, traveling the globe to represent ENSIS. Sofia, thank you for your passion and commitment - your determination inspires us all! Congratulations on your performance in Brazil and throughout the year.

That’s a Wrap

This year, we witnessed riders wingfoiling massive waves once thought impossible in Cape Verde, pulling off huge airs in Gran Canaria, and performing rotations never thought possible. Year after year, competitors continue to push the boundaries of wingfoiling. What’s more, the riders are getting younger, faster, and better. We can’t wait to see what 2025 will bring!
