The highly anticipated GWA BIG AIR event is fast approaching. In Gran Canaria, from July 9th to 13th, riders will challenge each other to see who can perform the highest and most radical moves. Within the ENSIS team, we have a young multi-discipline shredder participating in the event. She has spent countless hours on the water in Pozo, where the competition will be held. We thought it would be a great opportunity to introduce her and chat about wingfoiling and the upcoming event. She is a natural on the water with a bright future, and she is definitely one to keep an eye on in competition. We're stoked to chat with Sol Degrieck, and we’re proud to have her on the ENSIS team.

Chatting with Sol Degrieck

Hi Sol, please introduce yourself!

“Hi, I am Sol Degrieck, I am 14 years old, and I am from Belgium. I am the current Youth World Champion on the PWA windsurfing tour. I started wingfoiling when there was not enough wind to windsurf, and it was really nice. It opened a whole new dimension. I spent a lot of time in Pozo, Gran Canaria, and then started wingfoiling in stronger winds and more waves. I love being on the foil above the waves and being able to jump higher than I would windsurfing.”

Sol, you rip at windsurfing and are a natural at wingfoiling! Do you think having a background in windsurfing made wingfoiling easier for you, and what is your favourite wingfoiling move/trick?

“Having a background in windsurfing definitely made learning to wingfoil easier. While windsurfing, you have a lot of contact with the water and sail, you learn to read the conditions, and you are more comfortable in the waves and wind. I love jumping as high as possible wingfoiling, trying to touch the sky!”

What is it like being part of the ENSIS TEAM?

“I love it! I recently spent a week in Switzerland with the ENSIS team. We learned a lot about the wings and foils, learned new tricks from each other, and got to know each other better. There is a really nice atmosphere in the team.”

Are you ready for the competition? Tell us about your gear and setup!

“I am ready for the competition! I will be using an ENSIS ROCK’N’ROLL 37L with the Infinity Foil 880 and the ENSIS TOPSPIN wings.”

BIG AIR at Pozo, Gran Canaria

This year's Gran Canaria event is exclusively BIG AIR. Anticipation and excitement are at an all-time high, with the event planned to be live-streamed. We’re certain there will be a lot of enthusiastic and excited viewers. Pozo is well-known for its strong wind and waves, making it the perfect venue for BIG AIR. Sol will be riding and representing ENSIS on the water. Good luck and send it! We will be cheering for you on the water!
