Most kids get a school holiday. Liam gets a wind season.

When Europe starts cooling down, Liam Calo packs his gear and heads to Cape Town - straight into one of the windiest seasons in recent years. Strong wind. Proper waves. Long days on the water. Conditions that make some riders hesitate. Not Liam.

This year Cape Town did not hold back. It blew. A lot. With swell in the mix, the stage was set for proper progression and sending it.

No Picking and Choosing

Rather than waiting for perfect days, Liam rode everything. When the wind was cranking, he was wingfoiling. If it dropped, he surfed. As soon as it filled back in, he was on the wing again. That is the never ending summer. No off button. No long winter pause. Just constant time on the water.

That consistency is exactly why he looks so comfortable.

Liam moves on the water like it is home. His dad, an ex pro windsurfer who now runs windsurfing clinics, understands something crucial about progression - it comes from willingness and excitement, not pressure. Liam pushes on his own terms. No forcing sessions. No burnout. Just stoke and hours. A lot of hours.

You notice it in the details. The way he handles gusts, reads waves, and commits when others hesitate.

From Free Ride to Race Course

That same comfort carried straight into racing. Cape Town was not only about waves and freestyle. Liam lined up on the race course as well, testing prototype gear in proper high wind conditions. Real pressure on the start line. He finished 5th overall and 2nd in the junior division at just 12 years old. More telling than the result, though, was how he looked out there - calm, confident, completely at ease in heavy wind.

That is what a never ending summer builds. Not just tricks. Not just results. It builds comfort.

Most riders have an off season. Liam simply switches continents. Others wait for summer. He is already in it. Strong wind does not feel extreme to him. It feels normal. Waves are not intimidating. They are part of the session.

At 12 years old, Liam is stacking windy seasons back to back - surfing, windsurfing, wingfoiling, racing, testing, learning. The summer keeps going. Keep an eye on this one - the podium is going to feel very familiar.

The gear that keeps him flying

When it comes to wingfoiling gear for kids, Liam rides a setup that’s perfectly matched to his size and style. He rides the the ENSIS ROCK’N’ROLL 27 and his light wind board is the  ROCK’N’ROLL 37 ( Not many people can say their light wind board is 37 liters…).

For wings, he switches between the ENSIS TOPSPIN 2.0 and 2.5 for freestyle, and the TOPSPIN ACE 3.0 and 4.0 when he wants more speed and power. This gear gives him the control, lift, and responsiveness he needs to ride at the highest level, while still being light enough for a younger rider.
