Inflatable Wingfoil Repair and Care Guide

Learn how to properly care for, pack, and repair your inflatable wingfoil, including ENSIS wings like the SCORE, TOPSPIN, and DRIVE. Following these tips will keep your wingfoil in top condition, improve durability, and help prevent damage during sessions. Always inspect your wing before each session. Damaged wing bladders or tears can affect performance and safety on the water.

Drying Your Wingfoil After Sessions

After every session, it is essential to let your inflatable wing dry completely before storing. Packing your wing while it is still wet can lead to mold and mildew, which weakens the fabric, causes stains, and produces a bad smell. Once mildew sets into the wing’s laminate, it is nearly impossible to remove without damaging the material.

If you leave the beach with a wet wing, take it out of the bag when you get home and fully dry it before storage.

Removing Sand, Dirt, and Debris

Sand and dirt are your wingfoil’s worst enemy. When drying your wing, avoid leaving it flapping loose in the wind, as repeated abrasion on the same spot will damage the canopy.

A good method is to secure the wing upside down with minimal slack between a pole and the leash attachment point. Place an object on the canopy to prevent flapping—an unused board works well.

Before packing, remove all sand and dirt. These particles accelerate wear on the wing fabric and seams. A clean wing will last much longer.

Rinse your wing with fresh water, paying special attention to the leading edge and canopy panels. Dirt often collects in the area behind the leading edge. Releasing some wing pressure while rinsing can help remove trapped particles.

Wingfoil Care Tips

  • Always use fresh water to clean your wing. Avoid chemicals, detergents, or dish soap, which can damage the laminate and UV protective coating.
  • Avoid prolonged UV exposure. Pack your wing away or place it in the shade if the wind dies.
  • Do not leave your wing in a hot car for hours, as excessive heat can damage bladders and valves.
  • For long-term storage, ensure the wing is fully dry, loosely rolled, and kept in a cool, shaded location to prevent fabric and bladder degradation.

How to Pack Your Inflatable Wingfoil

To pack your wingfoil:

  1. Roll both wingtips inward so they meet.
  2. If your wing uses a boom, you can stop here.
  3. If using handles or a removed boom, roll the wing and fold it in half before placing it in the bag.

If boom is rigid handles or the boom is removed, fold the rolled up wing in the
  4. Store in a cool, dry location, such as a garage shelf.

Proper packing prevents unnecessary stress on seams and bladders and extends your wing’s lifespan.

Repairs and Maintenance

Wingfoil damage is inevitable with regular use. Most damage is repairable, but some requires professional attention.

When to Go to a Repair Shop
  • Any damage to the leading edge or strut must be repaired professionally. These structural components carry the load of the wing. Improper repairs can lead to larger damage or bladder blowouts.
  • Even small cuts or punctures on the leading edge or strut should be inspected by a repair professional.
Temporary Canopy Repairs

Canopy damage away from the leading or trailing edges is easier to repair temporarily, allowing you to continue using your wing for a few sessions. Most wings include sail repair tape in the wing bag.

How to repair:

  1. Clean the damaged area with fresh water and let it dry.
  2. Cut two pieces of repair tape slightly larger than the damaged area. Round the corners to prevent lifting.
  3. Apply one piece of tape on each side of the canopy.

This is a temporary fix. Once more damage occurs or when professional repair is convenient with your wind forecast, send the wing for proper repair.

Bladder Leaks

If your wingfoil is losing pressure, you may have a bladder leak. Bladders are repairable, but the process requires space, patience, and care. If this is not convenient, sending your wing to a repair shop is the easiest solution.

A full bladder replacement and leak-finding tutorial will be available soon.

Quick Wingfoil Care Tips

  • Dry your wing before storing.
  • Remove sand and dirt after each session.
  • Rinse behind the leading edge and canopy.
  • Keep away from direct sun and heat when not in use.
  • Fold and store in a cool, dry place.
  • Send leading edge or strut damage to a professional.
  • Temporary repairs with tape are suitable for minor canopy cuts.
