Going Big in Gran Canaria
This year’s one-stop BIG AIR event has just concluded, with wing foilers from around the globe making their way to the windy island of Gran Canaria to battle for the title of Big Air Champion. The event site at Salinas de Tenefé, near Pozo, lived up to its windy reputation. The BIG AIR competition had wind on the opening day and concluded on the second, as riders aimed for the sky and pushed the level of riding even higher.
The format was simple: the higher the move, the higher the score. During each heat, riders had to execute jumps or tricks as high as possible, earning a score between 1 and 10. Two tricks would be scored per heat, with the judges’ criteria being 70% based on the height of the move and 30% on the technicality of the trick. This exciting format treated spectators to front loops over 10 meters high.
