How Long Does It Take to Pumpfoil Around Lake Silvaplana?
Lake Silvaplana is a beautiful lake in the Swiss mountains, where most of the iconic ENSIS photos are taken. It is also where the ENSIS EngadinWing event is hosted every year, making it feel very much like the ENSIS “home lake.” So, we thought it was really cool when our Swiss team rider, Devin Hauser, pumpfoiled for over an hour and a half around the perimeter of the entire lake.
About Devin Hauser
Devin is one of our talented young team riders. He is passionate about racing and is very involved in the windsurfing IQ Foiling class, with the goal of representing Switzerland at the Olympics one day. He is also a natural at wingfoiling and pumpfoiling.
Devin spends a lot of time on the water at Lake Silvaplana. When there is wind, he can be found wingfoiling and windsurfing, and pumpfoiling when there is none. He spontaneously decided one windless day that he was going to pump around the perimeter of the lake, which is just under 7 km worth of pumping. And something you should know—the lake has an altitude of 1791 meters, so it takes more effort than it usually would! We caught up with Devin to ask two things: why, and what was it like?
“So, it wasn’t planned at all. The day before, I thought I had to do something and wanted to pump around the lake, but right after that, the wind kicked in. The next day, there was no wind and I was ready and just started pumping. I knew it was going to be tough, but not as tough as this. The worst part was when the north wind kicked in and I had to pump against the wind. I had about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and my legs were dead afterward. So, it was a cool experience and maybe I’ll do it again. I can’t live normally; I always need a challenge and things to learn.”
Props to Devin on his really cool achievement. Devin used our HIP HOP PRO, a really compact and practical board for pumpfoiling. The design is well thought out and is lightweight and tough enough to take the dings and knocks that are bound to happen while pumpfoiling. Check it out here.
